OUR MISSION
To make going out to eat and traveling on a Gluten-free diet easier - and therefore more enjoyable for those on the Gluten-free diet - and those around them. COMPANY BACKGROUND Bob Levy was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in February, 1995 and has a personal understanding of many of the trials and tribuations other Celiacs face in trying to maintain a happy, healthy lifestyle while adhering to a strict Gluten-free diet. Just a few months after being diagnosed, he began arranging Gluten-free dinners at restaurants in the Baltimore area and Gluten-free Getaways to an all inclusive resort in the Caribbean. A number of people who participated in these dinners and trips suggested that Bob had a "real knack" for getting the chefs at these restaurants and resorts to accommodate the Gluten-free diet and that perhaps it should be a full-time endeavor. It took a while for the concept to develop, but in November of 1998 Bob & Ruth's published its first newsletter and we were off and running. We offered our first Eastern Caribbean cruise in March, 1999 and have since conducted a wide variety of escorted Gluten-free Getaway tours, cruises and destination resorts all over the World. These Getaways represent a wide variety of locations, price ranges, length and settings. From tours of the Orient - to Cruises with dedicated galleys - to 2-3 night Mini Getaways with closer destinations - and, of course, THE FOOD. We take pride in offering not just "safe" gluten-free food, but a wide variety of delicious, delectable menu items on all of our Getaways. We pay special attention to those items we cannot expect to be ordinarily accommodated in restaurants - such as baked desserts, fried items, soups, sauces, etc. We value our reputation for the safe and "great" gluten-free food served on our Getaways. Ask any of the hundreds of people who have participated in one of our Getaways about THE FOOD. Since March, 2000, we have worked with over a thousand participants at our four-hour "Going Out To Eat and Traveling Gluten-free Workshops" that we conduct in cooperation with local Celiac support groups in the U.S. and Canada. Participant feedback has told us that we are helping to make going out to eat and traveling easier for those of us on the gluten-free diet, and therefore, making our lifestyle so much more enjoyable. Every time we do a gluten-free dinner - either at a local or national chain restaurant - on a cruise ship - at a resort - or at a restaurant anywhere in the world - we are educating someone else about how to accommodate our Gluten-free diet needs. The discussions, preparations and implementation of our dinners, Workshops, Getaways, etc. are often long-term, very time consuming and have significant costs involved. We need your support to keep moving forward. There are many other new and exciting services being worked on right now. All our efforts have one goal in mind - to make your life as a Celiac as normal and enjoyable as possible. Come along for the adventure!
